My Sophie

Sophie was left at the local animal shelter when her elederly owner had to move to assisted living. She was 6 months old when she was dropped off and she hadn't been propely cared for prior to landing at the animal shelter. The staff at the animal shelter thought that she was stupid and in bred so they didn't mess with her, only fed and watered her. I stopped by on a Friday and was told that she was "an idiot" and would be put down tomorrow unless someone took her today or tomorrow before the killing spree began.
I hadn't really messed with her while I was there on prior visits believing the staff knew what they were talking about. So that day I go out in the main kennel and get her out of the cage and talk to her and pet her. Within 2 minutes she knew to sit on command without food as a motivator. We went for a walk on a leash (which I had been told she couldn't do)and we played and I petted her and talked to her some more.
We went back in the lobby and I asked if I could bath her and proceeded to give her a long over due bath and brush her. She loved the attention and I loved giving it to her. I signed the foster papers and took her home knowing if things didn't work out with me I could find her a loving home.
Sophie has been fully adopted by me and her German Shepherd brother thinks she is awesome too. I can't imagine life without her now. I've always had German Shepherds because I love a smart dog. Standard Poodles are very smart and so sweet. It is an odd match but a very good one.
By the way I rescued my German Shepherd from the humane society 6 years ago.
