Harley: Mackie's successor by: mackie's Mom: Marcia
When Mmackie died in Ap[ril, I said I wasn't going to get another dog, ever, because my husband had just finished chemo. We had made plans to travel more, and just couldn't see having a dog only to farm him out when we were away.
My husband's cancer returned that September and he was becoming sicker by the month. By the time December rolled around, he was very weak and homebound. My daughter thought we needed something to put a smile on our faces and she got in touch with a breeder. I kept saying I didn't want another dog, especially now with my husband being so sick. My daughter thought differently. However, when she got to the breeder, she had second thoughts about bringing a standard poodle home. She told the breeder that she really didn't think her mother could handle a standard puppy at this point because her father was quite ill. She chose a chocolate brown toy poodle and brought him home on December 26. He was all of 3 lbs. It was freezing out and the snow was high so I litterbox trained him, which was a godsend to me at that time. This little guy, who looked like a miniature clone of Mackie would stay by my husband's side all day. Friends that came to visit thought he was a stuffed animal because he didn't move a muscle, just stood vigilant next to my husband. Unfortunately, my husband passed away three weeks later, but Harley is here with me to stay. I am forever grateful of the good care he gave my husband and the companionship he now gives me.

Enjoy Jessie and don't think about tahe day that is far, far, away. She will give you many years of joy. She will listen to everything you say, follow you around, and stand vigilantly by your bedside should you fall ill. These dogs are in a class by themselves. You said in your post that she has human eyes. Well, she is human! I always said my Mackcie was like a little 4 year old, adorable and mischievous. He understood everything I said to him. Whether he would obey or not immediately, depended on his mood! Most times he would obey, but if he really had a mind set to do otherwise he would pretend to obey me at first, then turn around and do what he wanted. As frustrating as this was at the time, it was also a trait that made him absolutely adorable and lovable.
I saw Jessie's picture. She is beautiful. Enjoy her! Thank you for your beautiful message. Just take good care of Jessie which I am sure you will do.

so touched..... by: Jessie's Mom
your post made me cry. we have our first standard poodle, an almost 7 month old, chocolate, female; her name is jessie. i wanted a standard for a long time and my husband finally agreed and bought her for me from a breeder in south carolina. we were in love the second we laid eyes on her. she was 10 weeks old. she's a lot of work, but i cringe at the thought of the day she will leave us. i know that is many years from now, but i love her so much that it scares me. they are an exceptional breed. i know all breeds have their wonderful character traits, but not one is like the poodle.
my heart breaks for you, however, you were so blessed to have mackie for so many years. and mackie was so blessed to be part of a wonderful family. you gave him a great life. be proud of yourself for that.
