I think there are a lot of poodle problems that stem from autoimmune disease. Autoimmune thyroiditis and problems with ear infections could definitely be related. My girl Corsa is going on 11 1/2 years old and has had a number of problems that are autoimmune mediated. She is the only one of my four who have ear problems. She has SLO: Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy. This causes her toe nails to split and fall of and leave the quick raw and painful. She has allergies. She was just diagnosed by an opthamologist with Immune mediated retinitis (her eyes are clouding over due to the blood vessels around the eye constricting and not allowing the cornea to drain). Luckly this can be treated to some degree with eye drops.
Aside from that... she has been healthy and happy :)

I realized that I need a way to communicate further. You contact me at Alchmy@me.com
Wow! I am amazed that your pup didn't get hurt on that fall! How lucky. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise so that you found out about the HD early on. Did you put him on Glucosamine?

health issues by: Anonymous
Hi, I have 2 Standard Poodles and I see that you are seeking health information. One of my boys had a lot of trouble with ear infections and he also has hypo thyroid, and the vet thinks the two issues are related. The younger boy let himself off of our 3rd floor terrace onto the driveway and managed not to break anything, but upon seeing the x-rays, the vet told us he has hip displyasia(sp?) in both hips. These boys both come from the same breeder in No. California who says these problems don't exist in her lines.
