my best friend& love of my life

Today is 9/17/08. This day was surreal for me. My Niro, standard black poodle, was hit and killed by a Fed EX truck after he broke away from the leash. I immediately ran into the street to get my Niro and was yelling at the truck driver to stop and help. He eventually stopped, but did not get out to help. I picked my baby up off the road and carried him into the garage. I am a small woman but some how able to carry him. I am astonished at the insensitivity of the truck driver and when I called the police dept. after I had brought Niro to the Hospital and he was pronounced dead. The animal control officer in Cheshire CT read me the riot act upon the potential damage my dog could have caused if there were other cars involved and people got hurt. She then went on to say the driver isn't going to pursue damage to his Fed EX truck because he said there was no damage. I couldn't believe the lack of sensitivity and empathy from the Cheshire animal control officer. Then again Cheshire does have poor timing in their response efforts. I told her I was grieving and she continued to site the law and how lucky I was that there was no physical damage to the Fed Ex truck, despite the truck was speeding and was not going to stop as I sat screaming for him to stop. Most probably he knew I just might have his plate no. It is quite upsetting to know that you’re paying for police salaries that just don't give a damn for human emotion. I'm sorry for your loss would have been a nicer comment. It is frightening that the people who have a position of power and carry a gun can be so ignorant. What kind of sensitivity training do cops go through anyway or do they? Yes I am grieving, and more so now after dealing with the Cheshire Police Dept. in Ct Yes, he was/is my Niro always will be. He was a great being. He had a lot of sensitivity, and was also aware of my feelings. I wish people had more conscience awareness of the significance a companion pet relationship has, apparently Niro did, so why couldn't the animal control offer have some empathy, animals do.
