Happiest Poodle In The Whole USA
We have only rescued/adopted dogs since 1979. After having terrier mixes and lab mixes we were looking to cut down on shedding. By chance a 3 year old standard poodle came up for adoption. She had been succesfully shown in the UKC (top 5 poodle in the nation)but was not going to advance any further and the owner was looking for a better dog. Our good luck. We were sceptical about owning a former show dog. To make a long story short ... 3 years later we have the happiest girl in the whole USA. Very little shedding, always happy and fit in with our rescued chow/lab mix orphan too. Just two things, she is very vocal and loves to hunt. Our home is surrounded by farmland and lots of critters and deer. We intalled an electric fence, which she trained to quickly but she loves to bark. Still working on that. Also, Standards are prone to Addisons disease (an adrenal gland malfucntion). We almost lost her unexpectantly but with medication, which costs us about $120 a month (cuts back on dinners out) (they can be tested for this)we have a happy and healthy dog. We choose to keep her cut short but she loves to be groomed. This dog had spent most of her young life crated but she has blended well into our home. She even loves cats! If you have the patience, they are wonderful, intelligent dogs that just need consistant training and attention for a short time. She loves to go to the dog park and run with strange dogs.
