Sad
by: Anonymous

What a sad story. I do however agree with the vet that the bite the secretary gave Sophie 1 probably did not kill her. It was just terrible luck that she had a bloat attack and that you did not recognize what was happening. Bloat requires immediate medical intervention if the animal has any chance of being saved but unless you know what to look for, people often don't realize. It isn't anyone's fault but as humans we want to make sense out of tragic events. I'm so sorry you went through this but you'll always recognize the signs of bloat now and Standards are on the high risk group for this problem. Small meals 2-3 times a day and never feed and then immediatly leave your new baby home alone. I always make sure that I feed Allie and am with her for the next 30-60 mins. If vomiting or wreching begins drive at high speeds to the vet because it could mean the stomach has twisted. Take care and enjoy your new love!
