Diva's Story

by Brandi
(Louisiana)

My six year old and his

My six year old and his "baby sister"

I have always had the love for dogs since I can remember. After I was married in 2002, my terrier mix had to be put down due to age and illness. To make things worse, it was on my Birthday. I called my husband to tell him, and when he came home from work, he had a 1/2 lab, 1/2 border collie puppy for me that he adopted from the local shelter. We named her Macy and she was wonderful at first. As she grew, she became very rough with our 3 year old son and we were concerned about his safety. Not to mention the fact that she shed so much. Well, I went to pick up Macy from the groomer and she told me she was going to be shedding so much over the summer and then I told her about how Macy was with Connor. The groomer then looked at me and said, "Do you want this dog?" (A white Standard Poodle) My response was, "What's wrong with her?" She explained to me that her sister was moving and could only take her 2 smaller dogs with her, so she was looking for a good home for her Poodle, Diva. So, I was concerned about finding a home for Macy. The groomer told me not to worry, she had a client that had a farm that would love to take her. So, we took Diva home for the week to try her out. She was 3 years old and automatically fit in with our family. She was perfect!! We just couldn't figure out why she would not play with one toy! So, I asked the groomer about why she wouldn't play with anything and we couldn't get over how well trained she was. Whe told me that her sister adopted Diva from a family in the New Orleans area who trained her to be a "show dog", but they were unable to care for her after Hurricane Katrina came through. So, that explained it all.
About 3 months ago, the groomer called and told me that one of her elderly clients bought a Standard Puppy, but the owner fell ill and wanted to find a good home for her puppy because she couldn't care for it. So, we adopted Shelbi too!! Diva was a little unsure at first, but now they are best friends and I believe the Shelbi may have even taught Diva to play with one of her toys. They are perfect and add such joy to our home. Our six year old son, loves them both and on the weekends, we all sleep together at night! Yes, my husband, son, 2 Standard Poodles and myself all in the same bed! HA! Thank goodness for King Size Beds! Everytime I bring our girls anywhere, people fall in love with them! In fact most of our friends tell us that Diva is almost too human for them to be around! We love them so much and are so happy that we were lucky enough to find such kind and loving companions to add to our little family!
