panting poodle
by: Anonymous

We have had 5 standard poodles over the years and have one now that starts to pant when his hair gets to long fot HIS liking. He likes to be cut very short except for his top knot and his tail. When he comes home from the groomers he is very happy and doesn't pant again util his hair grows out.

possible causes
by: crazylady and Dog

Impacted anal glands are my first suspect. Make sure these arenot the problem. They must be cleaned out internally by vet. If not, second cause may be heart murmur. They are graded 1 to 5 scale. Be sure that you get second medical opinions on your poodle unless you 100 percent trust on vet. With my poodle,15 of 18 vets say she has a heart murmur. We travel 48 states so over 13 years, we have a need for vets around the country.

Panting Poodle
by: Jackie

Hi, Anything new or different in your schedule? Of course your vet checked for diabetes, right? Dogs, especially poodles, are so sensitive to their environment and are likely to suffer from separation anxiety. I assume you've exhausted the possibility of the panting being linked to something that is simply stressing your doggy out? If it's not medical then its behavioral/emotional/environmental in nature. More details about when/where/how often/how long your dog shows this behavior would be helpful.

Good Luck and I'm interested in how things evolve with this problem.

Jackie
