Awesome Amber
Awesome Amber!!!!
My husband and I had been talking about getting a larger in house dog when Charlie my bird dog mix passed away. We wanted a dog that would bark when someone came to the house since the Yorkies are useless as guard dogs. Within 24 hours of Charlie's passing my friend LW calls (she loves matching horses, dogs, cats etc.... with new owners) she knows of a group of Standard Poodles that just were rescued from a local puppy mill. Even though emotionally I was not ready to adopt my husband and I made an appointment at the kennel for the next day upon my friends assistance. Once introduced to the kennel owner who was fostering the dogs (7 of them) she brought the poodle gang into a large room. In my mind a had pictured a large standard poodle around 50lbs, black or silver in color in my family. All the poodles had these charateistics except one. There was one small (about 24lbs, apricot) poodle that had her sights on me from the time she entered the room. Keep in mind there were 6 other adults in the room with me. The dogs were all playing with other except one, the small apricot poodle (Amber), as the kennel owner explained how she came about the dogs and traits of each one The Amber poodle was glued to me! I tried looking at the other dogs but she kept herding them away from me. The kennel owner kept laughing because normally this dog was afraid of the other dogs because she had been repeatedly jumped at the puppy mill and had the scares on her back to prove it. At one point I went out to my car to get something and before I knew it she got out of the building and was in my car. When I came back into the kennel with Amber following I declared that I have been chosen to be Amber's new mother.
We have had Amber for over a year now. She has excelled in obedience training and is now competeing in agility where she is known as Awesome Amber!
