You are in for a treat!
by: POODLELOVE

I have rescued four standard poodles over the years (I have owned six total) and you are in for a treat. It may take a little while for you to acclimate your girl to your environment, to trust you and to train her. I said with one of my dogs that was particularly unsocialized, give him 3 months - he will be greatly improved, give him six months he will be just fine, give him a year, you won't be able to tell the difference between him and the rest of the group. That prediction was true. Now, I will say that each has their challenges. Boney (he was so skinny when we got him we named him Boney), is a major beggar - but that is mainly our fault, Claudette is a major rascal - jumps the fence and it has been and still is challenging figuring out ways to keep her in and Jazzy is our perfect girl, however, the rewards far outweigh the aggravation of their misbehavior from time to time. They are incredible incredible animals, very intelligent and extremely loving. Thank you for rescuing your girl. Hang in their with your girl, it will be well worth the investment. One thing I will tell you, walk her regularly. Walking has always been the best way, in my experience, to train my dogs. You bond with them and they learn to follow your direction. Plus, I keep in mind that when confined to a house, or even a fenced yard, their universe is very narrow. They learn routine very quickly and may bug you to death when they know it is time for their walk - mine know their time is when I finish the morning paper and coffee - and start staring me down and prancing around to push me to hurry, get dressed and take them for their walks. Good Luck!

Our experience
by: Anonymous

We took in a two-year old black standard male that had been part of a breeding program. He had not been socialized properly. At first he was skittish and shy. In short time, he turned out to be the best family dog, ever, and lived to 15. Thank you for your decision to take in this sweet and deserving animal.

I am really surprised they let her go without spaying her first. How sad.

AGreat Rescue Story
by: Heather

I too rescued a poodle but I was the foster mom only. I would have kept Olivia but after being caged up for 2 years at a puppy mill and weighing ony 35 lbs. I knew she needed a back yard. She loved her freedom so much. I salute you to want to rescue Gracie. WE need more people out there like you.
